A club coach doesn’t periodize a member toward the Tour de France. You periodize them toward Unbound, toward a gran fondo with their riding buddies, toward a masters national championship — the mass-participation goal events and amateur races that an everyday rider can actually train for, travel to, and finish. This calendar collects those events for 2026: the gravel marquees, the big gran fondos, and the USA Cycling championship windows that matter to amateur and masters riders.
It deliberately leaves out pro racing. A WorldTour calendar is great television and useless for planning a club member’s season.
How to read these dates
Mass-participation events lock their dates early because they sell out; USA Cycling publishes its championship schedule a year ahead. So most of this calendar is firm. Each entry is graded:
- Confirmed — the official event or USA Cycling page lists this exact 2026 date.
- Provisional — announced but tentative, or details still settling.
- Pattern — recurring slot given for planning; confirm before committing.
Where an event spans a multi-day festival, the date shown is the main mass-participation ride day. The linked official site is the source of truth.
Marquee gravel races
Gravel is where the amateur “A-race” culture lives now. These are the events club riders fixate on — and most sell out months in advance, so the planning horizon is long.
| Event | Date | Status | Location |

| Rebecca’s Private Idaho | Sept 12, 2026 | Confirmed | Sun Valley, ID |
| Big Sugar Gravel | Oct 17, 2026 | Confirmed | Bentonville, AR |
(The Belgian Waffle Ride is a multi-stop series — the four North American rounds above plus a Mexico finale; a rider picks the round that fits their season. Leadville is technically a mountain-bike race, but it’s an iconic amateur peak event and belongs on any goal-event list.)
Gran fondos & mass-participation road events
For the road-leaning club, the gran fondo is the goal event — a hard, supported mass ride with a timed competitive element. The Gran Fondo National Series (GFNS) runs the dominant US circuit.
| Event | Date | Status | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Levi’s GranFondo | Apr 25, 2026 | Confirmed | Windsor / Santa Rosa, CA |
| Gran Fondo Asheville | Jul 19, 2026 | Confirmed | Asheville, NC |
| Gran Fondo Maryland | Sept 20, 2026 | Confirmed | Frederick, MD |
| Gran Fondo Hincapie — Greenville | Oct 17, 2026 | Confirmed | Greenville / Travelers Rest, SC |
(A note for anyone working from an old calendar: Levi’s GranFondo is back. It paused, then relaunched under new title sponsor Skipstone — it runs April 25, 2026. The Gran Fondo Maryland event doubles as the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championship.)
USA Cycling national championship windows
For members who actually race — including the large masters contingent in most clubs — these are the 2026 amateur-relevant national championships.
| Championship | Date | Status | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro/Elite & Junior Road Nationals | Jun 17–21, 2026 | Confirmed | Charleston, WV |
| Masters & Junior Road Nationals | Jun 27 – Jul 1, 2026 | Confirmed | Greater Milwaukee, WI |
| Endurance MTB Nationals (Marathon / XC / Short Track) | Jul 13–19, 2026 | Confirmed | Roanoke, VA |
| Gravel National Championships | Sept 12, 2026 | Confirmed | La Crescent, MN |
| Cyclocross National Championships | Dec 9–13, 2026 | Confirmed | Fayetteville, AR |
The Masters Road Nationals in late June is the one to circle for most clubs — it’s where age-group riders chase a Stars-and-Stripes jersey, and it runs alongside the Tour of America’s Dairyland criterium series in Wisconsin.
Building a club season around it
The strength of a mixed calendar is that it meets riders where they are. A periodization block looks the same whether the A-event is Unbound, a masters road championship, or the local gran fondo: a winter aerobic base, a build with progressively race-specific intensity, a short sharpening, and a taper into the event. The discipline doesn’t change — only the date you point at does.
For a club with riders chasing different goal events, that’s the coaching challenge: several athletes, several A-dates, one training calendar. Drop each rider’s goal event into Smagpie and you can run parallel build blocks off a single team view — so the gravel crew, the fondo group, and the masters racers all stay on plan toward their own Saturday.
